Artists: Mahan Esfahani (harpsichord − Artist in Residence), Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum, direction: Reinhard Goebel
During his time as Thomaskantor, Johann Sebastian Bach worked not only as a composer and music director, but also continuously as a teacher. He taught the pupils of St Thomas’ School daily and in addition took in numerous private pupils for music lessons. Many of these pupils subsequently occupied respected positions and in their own works left behind certain traces of their famous teacher. With his Neues Bachisches Collegium Musicum Leipzig, grandmaster Reinhard Goebel has compiled a programme of compositions by four Bach pupils. The soloist is this year’s Bachfest artist-in-residence, harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani.
