Collegium 1704 and their sister ensemble, Collegium Vocale 1704, have ranked among Europe’s leading Baroque ensembles for two decades. Based in Prague and directed by Václav Luks , they first made a name for themselves with their seminal interpretations of the works of Jan Dismas Zelenka and Johann Sebastian Bach. Since then, they have extended their repertoire to the Classical and Romantic periods, of which one example is a magnificent recording of Smetana’s cycle »My Fatherland«. Collegium 1704 is a much-loved, regular guest at the Leipzig Bachfest. This year, visitors can look forward to a consummate and dramatic performance of the St. Matthew Passion.
