The Thuringian ruling seat of Meiningen played a central role in the life of Johann Ludwig Bach: this was where, for some three decades, he worked as cantor and kapellmeister. Mainly his vocal works have come down to us, including any number of cantatas and motets. That these pieces have survived at all is thanks primarily to Johann Sebastian Bach who, while he was Thomaskantor in Leipzig, performed compositions by his distant cousin on several occasions and conserved the sheet music. Capella sollertia led by Johanna Soller have set themselves the goal of re-editing and recording all the cantatas by the »Meiningen Bach« that have come down to us. They present a selection of them in today’s concert – of course, in dialogue with the »Leipzig Bach«.
