Johann Sebastian Bach never met either Vivaldi, Corelli or Couperin in person, yet even as organist in Weimar he already knew all about the compositions of his Italian and French colleagues. The main reason for this was the well-stocked library of the Weimar court, where Bach was able to study and adapt many current music editions. In two concerts, Capricornus Consort Basel – known for the wonderful sound of its strings – perform some of these originals which had such a formative influence on Bach, rounding out the programme with two of his solo cantatas. To sing them, they have two outstanding soloists at their disposal: soprano Miriam Feuersinger and bassist Tomáš Král.
