Sustainable: the Climate Pass!

Good for the Bach Forest – and your wallet

With the Climate Pass, we offer you a chance to improve your own CO2 footprint and that of the Bachfest. Because by buying a Climate Pass, you plant trees – and get a reward: 15 percent off regular ticket prices!

The challenge

The Bachfest is uniquely international: some 40 percent of our visitors come from abroad. In 2025 they represented 53 nations. Visitors from Europe travelled an average 840 km and visitors from countries outside Europe an average 8,773 km, most of them by plane. The result is a very high CO2 footprint for the festival – which we aim to offset in an equitable way with the Climate Pass!

The solution

By buying a Climate Pass, you fund the planting of further trees in the Bach Forest – a mixed forest which has been burgeoning since 2020 in a former mining area to the south of Leipzig. The totality of proceeds from the sale of the Climate Passes will go towards the planting of saplings.

Your Climate Pass price

Ø of travel      250 km          840 km            8,773 km
Price              € 50               € 80                 € 110
Trees             10                  16                    22

Small investment, big impact

Studies have shown that a newly planted tree stores around 200 kg of CO2 during the first 20 years of its life. A fully grown tree binds between 12 and 29 kg per year, depending on the species. One kilometre travelled by train or long-distance coach generates 39 g of CO2 emissions, and by plane 230 g. A transatlantic Chicago – Frankfurt – Leipzig flight (7,100 km) generates – depending on the travel class – CO2 emissions per passenger of around 3,300 to 6,200 kg. For such a distance you can choose the Climate Pass price »World« which allows the planting of 22 trees – compensating the CO2 emissions of your travel over a period of 20 years.
