Since 2019 the Bachfest has been collecting donations to plant a Bach Forest that will reach 25 hectares. For that purpose, we will plant 126,000 trees and 3,600 shrubs in cooperation with the Foundation Forest for Saxony – one day the forest will sequester up to 290 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. This mixed woodland is growing in an area of a former opencast lignite mine south of Leipzig close to the shore of Lake Störmthal near to the village of the same name. A few month after taking office as Thomaskantor in 1723, Johann Sebastian Bach inspected the new Hildebrandt organ in the church there. After so many years of planting, it is time for Bachfest visitors to have a look at the Bach Forest and be indulged with music by the award-winning ensemble amarcord. Your good deed: your ticket allows us to plant ten more trees! (Sturdy footwear and sure footing are required, meeting point: 8.00 am, return approx. 3.00 pm)
