No 42 Four-handed Bach

G. Kurtág: Transkriptionen von Bach-Werken, (Auswahl) • J. S. Bach: Fuga a 3 Soggetti (Fragment) • F. Busoni: Fantasia contrappuntistica
Artists: Can Çakmur (piano), Masato Suzuki (piano)
Deep admiration for Johann Sebastian Bach was the leitmotif running through the work of the pianist and composer Ferruccio Busoni. He arranged numerous Bach works for piano and, crowning this, in the 1910s composed Fantasia contrappuntistica for two pianos. This highly complex piece is based on the fragmentary Fuga a 3 Soggetti from Bach’s Art of Fugue, but also contains many further contrapuntal refinements. The two pianists Can Çakmur and Masato Suzuki place this masterpiece in juxtaposition with Bach’s original and a number of Bach transcriptions by the Hungarian composer György Kurtág.
