We have become a sleepless society. In bed at night, we take one more quick look to see if we have any emails, or watch videos on our smartphones or listen to podcasts, before being able, perhaps, to sleep at last ... Tenor Daniel Johannsen and writer Robert Schneider (»Schlafes Bruder«) have dreamed up a programme that places the theme of sleep and sleeplessness at the focal centre of this evening. Throughout the centuries, sleep and its connotations with death have been a subject of philosophy, literature, painting and music. Between texts written specially for this evening we will hear music by Lully, Scarlatti and Bach.
