On the deaths in 1727 and 1733 respectively of two ruling figures of Saxony, two unusual pieces of music were written which will be performed by the Czech ensemble Inégal. Exactly 300 years ago, with the »Trauerode«, Thomaskantor Johann Sebastian Bach composed a deeply moving memorial to the Saxon electress Christiane Eberhardine, who was immensely popular in the state for her steadfast adhesion to the Lutheran confession. When, six years later, the elector Augustus the Strong died, it was his Dresden court musician, Jan Dismas Zelenka, who provided the appropriate music for the funeral service in the form of a solemn requiem.
