Schauspiel Leipzig
Schauspiel
Schauspiel Leipzig is a municipal theatre company in Leipzig. Since 1957, its main venue has been the theatre on Bosestrasse in Leipzig’s theatre district. In 2013, Enrico Lübbe took up the post of director.
After the destruction of the Central Theatre in World War II, the building was reconstructed between 1954 and 1957. The result was a structure in the neo-Classical style which today is a listed building.
In addition to the Hauptbühne, or main stage, at Schauspiel Leipzig, the auditorium of which now (since 2013) has a capacity of 672, the company also has other venues offering space for modern drama or other performance formats. The Hinterbühne auditorium (formerly named “Theatre behind the Iron Curtain”) is remarkable for the proximity of the audience to the performers. The Diskothek venue on the corner of Bosestrasse and Dittrichring is a platform for young authors.
