In the late 1705, the 20-year-old organist of Arnstadt Johann Sebastian Bach fulfilled a dream and travelled to Lübeck and the famous organist Dieterich Buxtehude. He spent three months in the Hansa city, in his own words to »comprehend a thing or two about his art«. Under the direction of Jonathan Sells, the renowned Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists reconstruct this key experience of the young Bach. Music by the organists of St Mary’s in Lübeck, Tunder, Buxtehude and Schiefferdecker – is combined with selected Bach works, including the early cantata »Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich« (»I long, Lord, for you«).
