No 103 Goldberg Variations

The path to an international career as a pianist was virtually impossible for Xiao-Mei Zhu, yet with incredible dedication she succeeded: under Mao’s she spent five years in re-education camps in her Chinese homeland, then after fleeing to the US via Hong Kong, earned a living initially by working as a cleaner. Not until 1994, in Paris, did she succeed in making an international breakthrough – with Bach’s »Goldberg Variations«, which have been her showpiece ever since. Xiao-Mei Zhu has already performed the famous variations over 200 times, and now she is returning with them to Leipzig.
