Jean-Baptiste Lully composed his «Te Deum« as glorification of the regency of king Louis XIV on the occassion of the baptism of his son, Louis Lully, whose godfather the king was. The piece is one of the earliest French examples of church music making use of trumpets and timpani. And because of this glory it is still well-known.
