»Beautiful music is the art of the prophets that can calm the agitations of the soul; it is one of the most magnificent and delightful presents God has given us.« (Martin Luther) Martin Luther himself preached on Pentecost in 1539 in the presence of the sovereign and his entourage at St. Thomas’ Church, thereby introducing the reformation in Saxony. Bach set 30 songs by Martin Luther to music for his cantatas and organ works. Together, we will embark on a journey through 16th century Leipzig, have Luther appear in your mind’s eye and discuss his influence on Johann Sebastian Bach’s spiritual music.
