Strange happenings abound in a forest clearing: unhappy lovers wander, manual workers rehearse for a play, and the fairy queen, Titania, and her husband, Oberon, have fallen out; they have not spoken a friendly word to one another for several years. Help is called for and it comes running up: sly Puck, a »knavish sprite«, interferes, and with magic flowers and other tricks creates utter confusion and, finally, full reconciliation!
