Special exhibtion in the Bach-Museum


Anna Magdalena Bach – Fanny Hensel – Clara Schumann
August 23, 2019, to Januar19, 2020

During the festivities surroundig the 200th anniversary the Clara Schumann’s birth, the Bach-Museum will focus in a special exhibition on three well-known female musicians of the 18th and 19th centuries: the court singer Anna Magdalena Bach, born Wilcke (1701–1760) as well as the pianists and composers Fanny Hensel, born Mendelssohn (1805–1847) and Clara Schumann, born Wieck (1819–1896). Aspects like family bachgrounds, courses of education, scopes of action, social environments, and domestic restraints will be highlighted. The three artists will also be appreciated as performers of music by Johann Sebastian Bach.

On the occassion of Clara Schumann’s birthday celebrations, ten well-known musicians come to Leipzig for one week to play together in several different constellations. They are Antje Weithaas, Dong Suk Kang and Sayako Kusaka (violin), Pauline Sachse (viola), Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and Peter Bruns (violoncello), Martin Helmchen, Antti Siirala and Annegret Kuttner (piano) as well as Benedikt Hübner (double bass).
